Freddie Bosworth, who is a British Pilot and businessman, started the service of an air taxi in the end part of the 1940s. This service was just from Bahrain to Doha and Dhahran.
This service prospered and the pilot registered Gulf Aviation Company as a private shareholding company on March 24, 1950.
The British Overseas Airways Corporation became a major shareholder in the company which is formed by the Freddie Bosworth in 1951, by obtaining 22% shares in the company.
Later, the company was obtained by four states which is namely as the Kingdomof Bahrain, the State of Qatar, the Emirate ofAbu Dhabi, and the Sultanate of Oman.
The agreement was signed on January 1, 1974. All the governments had equal amount of ownership in the company which is 25% each and the planes used to have flags of all the states and the airline was branded as Gulf Air.
The rank was corroborated in the airline in the 1980s and the airline became the member of an IATA member, and the airline became the first international airline to land at Riyadh Airport in 1982.
